Slender mongoose

Order Carnivora Family Herpestidae- Galirella sanguinea
Solitary diurnal predator that feeds predominantly on insects but also takes a good number of lizards, birds, eggs, snakes and occasionally even fruit. Although it is terrestrial, it is the most competent climber of the mongooses and will often forage in trees for nesting birds, hence it is often the victim of mobbing by starlings and other bird species.
They are home-range animals and a male’s home range will overlap with females. After a gestation of 2 months 1-3 young are born in a sheltered area. Average lifespan is 8 years.
